WebSep 3, 2007 · Taking a look at the pic you see the ring gear and oil pan. In the middle of the ring gear and oil pan is the main bearing cap. If the seal was leaking the oil trail would start from the right side of the cap (your right) in between the cap and ring gear. This leak appears to be originating from the oil pan flange area. Just pull your trans back away from the engine, and pop the rear main seal out with a screwdriver, and tap the new one in.
